What NOT TO WEAR TO A PHOTO session!

As a photographer who mainly shoots sessions outdoors, I am always on top of the weather! Unfortunately I do not control the weather, and of course we want the ideal weather for your photos, so there are times that sessions have to be rescheduled. If rain or thunderstorms are forecasted for your session time, it will be rescheduled (usually to the next day or the following weekend, same time). I will make the call the night before and you will receive an email about the date it will be postponed to. If that date doesn’t work, you can email me back and we’ll work out another time!
I do not like taking chances with capturing these memories for your family! I understand the hassle of getting a family ready for a photo shoot. Scheduling the time, picking out clothes, loading the car, making the trip, etc. Therefore, I make sure I am extra prepared for you. I bring extra memory cards, 3 fully charged extra camera batteries, 2 extra lenses, even extra props. Most of the time I end up not even needing these things, but I’d rather be extra prepared than not prepared enough! I even make sure to back up all of your images onto an external hard drive, just in case.
Absolutely not! Some families prefer to have simple, organic photos with no props. That is totally okay! I’d rather provide options just in case you’d like to use them. Also, if you would like to bring some of your own props to a session, I welcome that as well! Have a birthday balloon for your little one? Bring it along! Have an ultrasound picture for your maternity session, feel free to bring it with you! I’m here to help bring your vision to life!
Before your session, I will email you my Client Experience Guide. This guide has more answers to common questions that people have, and even includes styling tips. I also have some styling inspiration and tips under my Instagram Highlights (www.instragram.com/jennymacyphotography). I may also be making a blog post in the near future with some styling tips for different types of sessions! If you’re really stumped on what to wear to a session, I always recommend sticking with pastels and flowy fabrics – they never go wrong!
I have 15 years of experience working with little ones, including 7 years of teaching Kindergarten! Believe me when I say I’ve dealt with many challenging behaviors! I come equipped with little props, corny jokes and a lot of patience! I don’t mind being silly and doing whatever it takes to get a genuine laugh out of a little one. Even if it takes some temporary bribing!
You’d be surprised! Within a 20 minute time frame we can get a lot of great shots! Once our time begins, I’m basically shooting the entire time! I may be moving you around a lot in order to get a variety of different angles, backgrounds and compositions for your gallery. 20 minutes is also the perfect amount of time for a little one (that’s about as long as their attention span)!
I get this a lot, “I don’t know how to pose!”, no worries! I’m here to help! I can pose you as much or as little as you’d like. As a people centered photographer, my goal is to make you look as good and flattering as possible. I want you to look back on your photos and feel good! I’ve studied the angles and positions that will make you look best in photos.
