Have you ever wanted to have photos done but didn’t have anyone around to do them for you? I’ve been there too! I’m going to show you how to DIY your own home photoshoot.
Lately I found myself wanting to grab some photos of my 3rd trimester belly before my little one comes along! However, I’ve found myself in a situation that most other people have found themselves in too, I didn’t have anyone around to take photos for me. So I learned how to rig up my own system!
You can use either your phone or your DSLR camera if you have one. I have a Canon, so that’s what I can demonstrate with.
Find a nice, big window with beautiful natural light! It will work best if the light is diffused by a transparent curtain.
If you have a tripod, set it up opposite of the window.
Most Canon cameras come with a self-timer. It may look different depending on the model of the camera. Navigating to it may also vary depending on your model. This is how I found the self-timer on my camera. It counts down from 10 seconds, then takes 3 consecutive shots.
If you’re using a cell phone, the self timer should look something like that and works according to the same concept. The only difference is it usually will take 1 photo instead of consecutive photos, depending on your settings.
Then it’s simple! Once you have your camera set up the way you’d like, press the button to take the picture and run to your spot. If you happen to have a remote for your camera or phone, that’s another method that works well (and saves you from having to run back and forth). However, if you don’t have one, this method is a tried and true way to DIY your own photoshoot from home.
I hope this was helpful to you! For more helpful tips, see more on the blog!
